Try, Try, and Never Give Up

As I enter the four corners of the class room this morning where I teach, I saw different kinds of faces - some are excited, some are smiling, but there are also some who have blank faces... I taught them a new lesson, and asked them to incorporate it to our previous activity. I observed them and waited for feedback and responses. Majority from the class are so eager and challenged to work with the program I asked them to perform. Some worked in groups, some even performed brain storming, some preferred to work alone, but some just seemed to wait for their classmates' answers.

After two hours of waiting, at last! I found one of my students who complied with my requirements. Another student followed, and another, and another...I feel so relieved that they really understood the lesson.

But I have this student who really caught my attention. She works alone in her computer, made a lot of drafts with her program, had so many errors in her code, and it seems to me she does not even know what she's doing. Minutes later, she then stood up from her seat, and approached me. She really had a lot of questions, and I tried to answer and explain it to her one by one.

I really thought she'll run out of time, and I thought that if she was a different person, she'll just ignore the errors and let the day pass, without submitting a running program. But I was wrong. Minutes before our class ended, she called my attention and told me that she had finished the activity and asked me to check her work. I was so amazed and really could not believe it that the student who keeps on asking me a while ago is the same person who wrote the program in front of me, she run run the program, and has complied with my specifications.

This is a simple story, yet we encounter it in our everyday lives. Some of us may encounter hindrances in our relationships, at home, at work, in school, but then, if we only try to find ways and explore the root cause of our problem, then, we can find solutions. If we failed on the first solution, keep trying, have an in depth analysis of the situation, and then find another way to solve the problem. Reach out, try to communicate, have faith, and never just give up...

Follow Your Heart

When I was young, I used to say that the "mind" is placed on the upper part of body for it to control our emotions and decisions in life. I used to live that principle. But then, I realized that when you're trapped in a situation wherein you have to choose between your heart and your mind, I learned that the heart is oftentimes powerful than the mind.

I used to love a quote stating, "follow your heart freely and if you get lost, use your mind to go back home". Being in love with someone and being indulged to something might make you feel happy and complete, but always remember the rule in loving - to love yourself first... love yourself completely so that when it's time to share it to someone, you can give him yourself completely.

So, whether it's choosing the person to love, the friends to go with, the company you'll be applying for, the business you'll be establishing, or even the course you'll be taking, make sure that when you decide, the LOVE for yourself is there. Use your heart and your mind to decide.

An Empty Glass

I always thought that being empty is a negative feeling. But then, when we try to realize and observe the things going on around us, somehow, we can compare ourselves to an empty glass. This is because every now and then, we have to be filled up with knowledge, with experiences, with lessons, and with emotions as we struggle in this world everyday. If we will compare ourselves to filled up glasses, then, we can no longer absorb the new experiences we gain, and never learn from them.
